Notes for the Psychics: Ratchet can sense malicious magic, so while he won't directly know you're spying on his thoughts - he doesn't have the training required to distinguish individual spells - he'll know something's up.

What's Okay To Mention Around Him: spoilers and things don't really relate to him. he's so near the end of his game, he's already seen the plot twists. any earlier game is ancient history, anything in future games, he'd just think you're lying. his world is full of phony fortune tellers.

Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/slash/etc?:
Shapeshift - sure, but he'll be put back without difficulty. the mages in ShFverse are used to that.
Bodyswap - see above
Slash - Ratchet wouldn't really be that interested.

Maim/Murder/Death: Bear in mind that, while he lives with three healers who can tend most wounds, resurrection's VERY difficult in Ratchet's world. so please don't kill him.

Kissing/Hugging/Badtouch:
Kissing - he'll bite you if you do.
Hugging - it depends on the situation. he probably won't bite you but he might try and escape.
Badtouch - he'll DEFINITELY bite you. did I mention he has sharp teeth and isn't ashamed to bite you somewhere more painful?

Abilities: He's a master engineer - but in the context of his world. A steam train is considered cutting edge technology. Ratchet is aware of the existence of technology more advanced on other worlds... and hates it. in the cut-throat world of Goblin guild politics, finding out that someone else has better technology than you is bad news. he sees it as a massive threat. however, he'll never admit this publicly.

In battle, he fights in his steam powered battle walker. It mostly hits things, but its fists can extend out on a chain. It also has a big sword in the pictures, but this isn't used in the game so I don't know whether it exists in canon or not. In an emergency, he will resort to biting.

Easiest way to get on his good side: praise his genius, buy him a beer
Easiest way to get on his bad side: touch his machine without permission, patronise him due to his small stature, mistake him for something cute and fluffy.

Favorite person: The Shining Force in general and Noon in particular. No matter how much he teases the elf for being a big gay ponce, Noon is the one he has known the longest and shares some of his past.
Favorite person met on the comm: not sure.

Prefers: Ratchet's an old Goblin and a bit of a traditionalist. He only likes female Goblins. Anyone else who tries to pressure him is asking to get bitten. I don't mind you mind-controlling him and making him change his mind though. I reckon he's a closet technophile, so making him hit on one of the robots would be funny.

10) Ratchet SUCKS in terms of actual use in the game. in my opinion, anyway. i'd go for a solid fighter and archer over him any time. I like to RP him in a world where his machine is more like Guntz's from Shining Force - an absolute powerhouse.
9) Ratchet feels more empathy with his machine than he likes to admit. It actually worries him slightly.
8) He's actually quite fond of the rest of the party, despite constantly complaining about them.
7) He worries about all the more advanced technology on the other worlds. He doesn't like there being technology he doesn't know how to use, and is worried he looks like an ignorant savage to these people. He's also worried he'll find out that steam power is really inefficient.
6) He misses people of his own species. Especially girls.
5) His best friend, after his machine, is Noon. They knew each other before he joined the Force, in Quonos, until Noon turned into a zombie.
4) Ratchet doesn't really like or understand religion. I don't think this is canon, but i think a practical-minded fellow like him would quickly grow angry about primitive superstition, and he's not exactly ethically perfect. plus, i find his endless rants about pointless holy wars amusing.
3) Magic is something he can accept, having seen it in use so many times. Although he can't use it, he has studied it a little and I suspect he has played with combining magic and technology. In game, he gains XP from using healing items, something only magic-using characters can do, even though he has no MP.
2) Ratchet can sense negative energy - he can effectively smell evil. This is probably a Goblin thing...
1) Ratchet is going to be possessed by Bulzome for a while near the end of the game. i will probably RP this.

Shining Force Headquarters was empty.

Everyone had gone out to battle as usual. Faking a vital malfunction that would prevent him from going into battle and require at least a week for repairs, Ratchet was finally alone with Penn. He had bought enough fish to coax the penguin into staying in one place for long enough. Everything was prepared.

Tightening a bolt on the armour plating of his suit, humming a song, checking out of the corner of his eye that the penguin was definitely still there, he waited.

Name: Ratchet al Manipul (Ratchet is his guildname, Manipul is his birthname)

Age: no idea... I imagine quite old, as he sort of looks like he has a beard and he must have a few years behind him to become a master engineer

Abilities: While no use in battle himself, Ratchet fights in his steam tank. As well as being armour-plated, it has huge fists called Anchors that can detach from the arms and shoot out.

Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/slash/etc?: Nope

Maim/Murder/Death: Ratchet is just a squishy mortal.

Kissing/Hugging/Badtouch: I'm sure he wouldn't object to a bit of lovin'. He doesn't really get much, with his looks.

Overall Personality: Tiny, beliggerent, crotchety, mischievous, slightly feral. He is fiercely protective of his reputation and especially wants everyone to know how wonderful his machine is. He is intelligent and grasps situations quickly.

He has rather a troubled past, having been cheated by his employers and sold to the Vandal. He is missing the Goblin community and worried about his status within the Guild. He also incessantly squabbles with other party members.

On a more general note about Goblins, I imagine that there was a long and arduous process between Goblins being the feral, green-skinned, evil-minded savages in ShF1 to being possibly one of the most civilised and progressive races in Aspinia, and they suffered quite a lot of persecution when they first tried to live peacefully with humans.

Extra: In his world, he is currently somewhere unspecified near the end of Scenario 1 and 2.
